As Moon points out, this has the potential to really dampen the impact that the company's support of RSS could have on adoption. Enterprise RSS is going to be complicated for sure. Check out the email exchange, though, the details are interesting.
Lyndersay summarizes his response like this:
- We don’t support storing different credentials for different feeds.
- We do support NTLM/Kerberos pass-through for using the users logged-in credentials
- We do support SSL-encrypted feeds
- We recommend using personalized feeds, where possible.

1. You know, I haven't seen an RSS aggregator built into a web browser yet that works very well for businesses. If you are going to use RSS in your company, it won't take long before you've built up several dozen feeds. Once you get to that point, you really need a dedicated tool to help you manage it anyway.
That said, it sounds like MS is only talking to people using RSS for home-growng systems inside a big enterprise. Authentication is most important if you are going to use off-the-shelf business software services like Mailroom or Basecamp. This is especially true for small businesses who would never have an enterprise-wide authentication system setup anyway.
