alarm:clock reports today that Industrious Kid has raised $6 million in funding for a security-intensive
blogging system for children to be launched in the second quarter of 2006. One of it's co founders sold
networking technology to Lucent in previous work. The company explicitly mentions security concerns regarding
MySpace in their promotional text. Let's hope that Industrious Kid is just the parent organization's name and that the specific blogging tool will be better branded. We'll see to how functionally limiting systems like this get in the name of security. Don't know that raising kids to prefer walled gardens is the best way to keep them safe, but I suppose that's an age old debate.

1. Hi there,
First thanks for the pick up, we appreciate it. So thank you.
Second, with regard to your remark "We'll see to how functionally limiting systems like this get in the name of security. "
Who says we're limiting functionality - rather we limiting access to our members content. The functionality of our site will be excellent.
Also we're building sites that are specifically designed for kids and therefore security is very important to us.
At Industrious Kid we don't want our young people publishing content(comments, points of view, personal statements or information) to individuals or audiences that don't have their best interest at heart. It's as simple as that.
Instead we want to ensure that kids have a good relationship with technology - not to worry or have fear.
So that means giving them the ability to develop organically, while limiting the audiences that might be interested in...well...any number of things that are not in our kids best interests. Make sense.
Oh and yes, our first product will be branded dramatically different that Industrious Kid. That is our parent company.
Best,
Tim Donovan
