Back in June we talked about the Participatory Culture Foundation's
Broadcast Machine software, an open source
package for website owners to easily publish video with an optional BitTorrent component to significantly cut bandwidth
costs. We mentioned this would eventually be integrated with DTV, a video aggregator client or, more colloquially, an
internet TV player. DTV is now out and about on the Mac OS X
platform, so if you're a Mac user you can head over and
download the beta.
I've had a chance to check out both Broadcast Machine and DTV now,
and you can safely color me impressed. BM is incredibly easy to install and use — you can set up and be publishing in
literally a few minutes' time. DTV has a nice, clean interface and is also dead easy to use. The number of available
channels and users is growing so quickly they're having growing
pains already. Video is hot,
hot,
hot.
