There's a ton of discussion following the
opening discussion panel
at BlogHer regarding the A-list,
why Technorati sucks (or why technorati_sucks,
apparently), how flat link structures
reflect gendered networking patterns by validating weak ties, and a sense of general frustration about the
performance (or lack thereof) of blog search engines. In the aftermath,
Mary Hodder,
danah boyd, and
Jason Calacanis are talking alternatives to
Technorati et al.
What metrics should a blog search engine encapsulate? What features do you want to see? Who do you think will get
there first? Of the portal players, my eye is on Yahoo. But it could well
be someone we haven't heard from yet — this is the era of the small, after all. What I really, secretly want (shhhhh)
is an interestingness for blogs. Something
flexible that responds to inputs over time. What do you want?
