Cartoon characters have them. Gourmet Station has
one. Blogs certainly offer a unique opportunity to express the
'voice' of an organization and invite readers into a conversation. There's an interesting conversation taking place in
the comments of Steve Rubel's 'fake blog' post.
Why create a 'character' to speak for your group, company, or organization, when you can have a group of characters
blog as themselves? Is there a future in character
blogs? Heck, there sure is a 'present' in them as their numbers actually abound.

(Page 1)2. I know this post is a little old now but I believe there is a future for character blogs if they are implemented correctly and appropriately. My own character blog- http://talgard.com is new but growing in popularity with each day and I believe it shows what can be done with them, something that the failed corporate character blogs should note (possibly).
