Back in March, 2004 I posted—Friendster
Seeking PHP/MySQL Programmers. It was no secret that Friendster was seeking a PHP solution for their sluggish
service.
And so, on June 29, 2004, when Joyce Park (Troutgirl)
blogged—Friendster goes
PHP—about the success of Friendster's PHP upgrade, I was not surprised. Seemed to be a matter of public
record.
Today on Troutgirl I was shocked to
read—Shitcanned. Friendster fired Joyce
Parker for blogging.
Lee Wilkins just sent me an email about his Fired for
Blogging post while I was composing this "Friendster Fires Troutgirl For Blogging?!" and pointed me to Jeremy
Zawodny's Fired for Blogging.
Jeremy includes a cancel-friendster.png of his
Friendster account cancellation, and suggests that we do the same…
If you do a Google search on
"fired for blogging" it
will return about 770 hits… Guess I'll be keeping closer track to see if this number increments proportionally to the
action of a social networking service, with no formal policy or prohibitions on employee weblogs, of firing a blogger
like Joyce Park.
If you are so inclined, let Friendster know how you feel about their terminating Joyce—by following Jeremy's example
of cancelling your Friendster account, by blogging "Fired for Blogging", or whatever else works for you… Sad day…

1. Just confirms what I have been saying... many [not all] of these YASNs get the TECHNOLOGY right [not always on the first try] but are clueless about the SOCIOLOGY of networks.
I would quit their site in protest, but I never thought enough of it to join.
Friendster, this DUH! is for you.
